Guarneri Del Gesu Model

Year: 2013
Materials:

Back: European Maple
Top: Italian Spruce

Finish:

Antiqued oil varnish

Notes:

This violin is loosely based on the Guarnieri Del Gesu’s “Kochanski” of 1741. This has been a favorite of mine for a long time, the outline is relaxed but compact, the corners have the feeling of having been pinched and pulled outwards from the body, the ff’s are some of the most harmonious by Del Gesu, they slouch comfortably towards the bass side and the wings, each trimmed at a different angle give the fiddle a friendly but intense expression.

I built this example from Bosnian maple with an Italian spruce top. I antiqued the varnish more extensively than I usually do.
