This Five String was made with Maple from the estate of Five String Pioneer maker, John Silakowski. The violin now belongs to Bluegrass and Roots music Professor, Dan Broner. Dan has owned half a dozen five strings including the very first ever purpose built Five, built by John Silakowski, for the great Randy Howard.
The wood no doubt makes some contribution to the tone of the instrument. Using it is also a tribute to the contribution to the instruments and the music, made by Silakowski. My Partner Brandon Godman bought all the wood from the Estate of John Silakowski and we can offer this wood as an option for your new Five
This fiddle also features a sculpted scroll that has become something of a trade mark for my Fives.
