The back for this cello is a gnarly piece of poplar from Romania, it worked differently from other poplar that I have used, in particular it didn’t scrape to a smooth surface, instead the grain was emphasized as a series of ridges. This, along with the varnish makes me think of some sort of alligator or leatherback turtle. I never thought that I would end up naming my instruments….
The sound is very robust; clear and warm.
