I’ve decided to print all of my own tee shirt designs in house, I’m using linocut block printing rather than the usual screen printing, I like the low tech, old school approach which gives the images more texture. and line variation.
I start with an idea and produce a digital image either in Illustrator or Photoshop. The image is transferred onto a lino bock and hand-cut using some of my violin carving tools. The cutting process leads to less geometric, more dynamic lines, shapes get modified interesting ways. The finished block is inked with roller and pressed onto the T shirt. Variations in the inking and the pressure applied cause varied texture in the final image, each impression is slightly different to the last.
