Pinned button

Most button damage originates from failing neck joints; the neck is loose in the mortise and as it moves it takes the button with it. If the neck becomes separated from the button, and if the cost of removing and resetting the neck is not justified, then a cheap (and totally inadequate) repair is to re-glue and pin the button back onto the neck root. Now, as the poorly fitted neck continues to move, it takes the button with it - as in this case where a healthy crack has developed down one side of the button and along the purfling line.

The double line of purfling is a tribute to the early master, Maggini. This Copy by Derazey
